What a GIGANTIC week! Season two is happening, yo! We're about to reach 30,000 downloads!!! My writing on Medium has garnered over 100,000 views. I'm enjoying a very fun, remote-controlled vibrator (affiliate link) that you and your boo need right now. Plus, I decided that enough is enough and I'm going to stop coloring my damn hair.
I’m enjoying a very fun, remote-controlled vibrator (affiliate link) that you and your boo need right now.
Plus, I decided that enough is enough and I’m going to stop coloring my damn hair. It’s a gradual process so as to avoid a skunk line, (not judging anyone else’s choice, it’s just not my thing). This shit is happening. I’m gray for pay!
Plus, the owner of my favorite Mexican restaurant gave me a free order of guacamole today!!! #DevotedLifetimeCustomer
And if that’s not enough, you’re about to enjoy an all-new Under Covers episode!!!!
Life is sublime.
Now, on to today’s episode.
CARMEN
(That’s not her real name).
Just like the previous Under Covers conversations, there’s a lot I could share with you about Carmen in advance, but I didn’t know anything, so why should you? You may think my clumsy interview style in these segments is completely calculated by me to appear all folksy when in fact I’m masking that I’m a vastly prepared professional.
Well you are wrong sir!
That’s no act. I don’t know any of these answers in advance. I prefer it that way. I didn’t know Carmen’s age, her socioeconomic status, her religious background, what she knew about sex, her sexual identity, nothing. And that was 100% deliberate because these are bits of information that we all use to subtly judge and categorize each other in advance. I wanted all of that off the table because going into an Under Covers interview blind is a great way for me to experience these conversations exactly as you will.
This is all about hearing another woman’s story with no bias whatsoever, and realizing that there may be aspects of a vastly different life that somehow resonates with your own. Suddenly, you’re not so alone anymore. Things may make a little more sense. Perhaps by hearing these stories, you can move forward with the knowledge that we’re all in this shitshow together and the best way for all of us to start healing is to start sharing.
With no judgment.
So I will keep this brief.
All you need to know in advance is that Carmen is 36, single and heterosexual.
That’s where all similarities end…or begin.
